A Passion for Black and White

Droitwich Camera Club welcomed Colin Trow-Poole as guest speaker on Monday 11th of September 2023. Colin gave a fast moving, entertaining, and fascinating presentation of his recent work. His talk included ICM (intentional camera movement), street photography, black and white, and people in various locations such as railway stations. He explained how he always tries to direct the eye of the viewer to the most important part of the image.

Colin presented prints, often in panels, and we noted that each print was either A4 size or square, giving consistency. Colin is sponsored by Permajet and talked about how different papers give a different finish to the print.

As a passionate monochrome worker, Colin showed the simplicity that black and white images can afford. By removing colour, the focus is shifted and distractions are minimized. Colin also encouraged us to experiment when taking photos.
