Gold Medal Success for Ric
We are delighted to announce that Ric Harding, one of our longstanding members and a well respected photographer, was recently awarded a Gold Medal at the 43rd Smethwick International Exhibition of Photography,. This was for a Nature Print entitled "Watching and Listening” and a copy of this stunning winning image is attached with Ric's kind permission.
In fact Ric had 5 (five) acceptances which is very impressive given that there were over 6000 (yes, six thousand!) entries from all over the world for this very prestigious competition. Ric was presented with his medal at the official opening of the Exhibiition in Smethwick on 6th January and the winning entries can be viewed at www.smethwickps.co.uk/sps-international
Asked about where and how he got the winning image Ric told us that he was in a small group of photographers led by Simon Weir (who gave a talk at DCC last season) in the Yellowstone National Park, USA, in winter. The American Red Fox was spotted as it moved over the snow hunting for prey and Ric explained that it stopped every so often listening carefully for small voles under the snow, tilting its head to fix their location and he got the shot! For the technically minded Ric told us that he used a Nikon D800 camera and a 80-400 mm lens at 400 mm using a tripod. ISO 800, 1/2000 sec at f/7.1
Congratulations to Ric on his success.
