On October 27, 2014, our members were asked to decide upon our Club’s name going forward. It was then known as Droitwich Spa Photographic Society, but the view from some was that this may not have reflected a name with which the photographic community of 2014 could potentially identify. It was also thought, by some, that the word ‘Society’ may be a barrier to gaining younger members, although arguments were reflected successfully both for and against this notion.
So in order to unify our identity and decide the issue once and for all,(or at least for a number of years) a vote took place amongst the membership. The name favoured by the majority was Droitwich Camera Club, which seems to reflect what a lot of clubs have adopted in their various regions. This is a departure from our previous name which appears to have been adopted in the late 1990’s. So as the world of photography moves on, so do we, the amateurs and enthusiasts that have developed a passion for the art.
So Droitwich Camera Club is here to serve the local community, but also as an alternative for those from further afield who may wish to fill asecond night a week with photographic learning and friendship, even if they are a member elsewhere.
Whilst we have changed our name, we will not change our open, welcoming and enthusiastic approach to Club photography. A testament which has stood the test of time as we have a number of repeat members whose time with the Club now spans many years. Thanks to you all for supporting Droitwich Camera Club. I am very proud to be the first Chairman of this newly named centre of learning and friendship.
See you every Monday night between September and May!
